An organic pillow has two jobs to do: use the materials you want to sleep on and fit the way you actually sleep. Cotton, latex, and wool tell you about its construction. The shape, height, and adjustability determine how you can make it your own.

If you are comparing organic pillows for side and back sleeping, start with three questions: What is the cover made from? What is inside? Can you adjust the pillow where you need to?

Look at the cover and the fill separately

A pillow with an organic cotton cover does not necessarily have organic fill. Read the material details for both parts instead of relying on the product name alone.

The Organic SpineAlign Pillow combines a 100% organic cotton, four-way stretch knit cover with GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex and certified organic wool. Its tan side panels distinguish it from the white-sided Regular version.

Those material choices are one part of the decision. Also consider the pillow’s construction: a fixed-shape pillow and a pillow with adjustable chambers offer different ways to find a comfortable fit.

Understand what the certification covers

GOLS stands for the Global Organic Latex Standard. When comparing products, look for a clear explanation of which material or product the certification applies to.

For the Organic SpineAlign Pillow, the GOLS certification claim applies to its organic Dunlop latex. The cover is 100% organic cotton, and the pillow also contains certified organic wool. We describe these components individually so you can see what you are choosing.

Choose a contour that suits your sleeping positions

A contour pillow uses different heights and shaped areas instead of a uniform surface. The Organic SpineAlign Pillow uses Dr. Jason Loth’s patented design, with two outer chambers and a lower center chamber.

  • For side sleeping: rest your head on an outer chamber, with your shoulder on the mattress beside the pillow.
  • For back sleeping: use the center cradle and position the raised edge beneath your neck.
  • If you switch positions: adjust the outer chamber and the center separately, then try both positions.

There is no single pillow height that feels right for everyone. Test the pillow on your own mattress, because the way your shoulders settle into the bed changes the space the pillow needs to fill. Our pillow height guide for side sleepers explains what to look for.

Look for adjustment where you need it

The Organic SpineAlign Pillow has three separately adjustable chambers. You can change one area without making the entire pillow lower.

  1. Start in your usual sleeping position and choose the chamber you use.
  2. Open that chamber and remove a small amount of fill, or redistribute the fill already inside.
  3. Close the zipper and lie down again before making another change.
  4. Keep the fill you remove in a clean bag so you can add it back later.

Make small changes. A pillow that feels tall while you are holding it may feel different once you lie down. The aim is a comfortable resting position, without a noticeable feeling that your head is being pushed up or dropping down. See Jason demonstrate the process in the SpineAlign adjustment video.

Regular or Organic SpineAlign: what changes?

Both versions share the same contoured design and three adjustable chambers for side and back sleeping, but their materials create a different feel. The Organic SpineAlign Pillow has a slightly firmer feel than the Regular pillow because of its organic wool content. The setup and adjustment steps are the same for both.

  • Regular: white mesh side panels, a polyester outer fabric, and shredded polyurethane foam fill.
  • Organic: tan side panels, a 100% organic cotton four-way stretch knit cover, GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex, and certified organic wool.

If organic cotton, latex, and wool are priorities for you, explore the Organic option. If you are still deciding whether a shaped pillow suits you, our contour pillow vs. regular pillow guide is a useful next step.

Check the practical details before choosing

Compare the size, care instructions, trial terms, and availability alongside the materials. Read the 60-night trial and return conditions, including eligibility and how to request a return. A trial gives you a process for evaluating the pillow at home; it does not mean every purchase or return is unconditional.
